Solution: Star Crossings
In Star Crossings, students were challenged to place four small objects, like pennies, on the numbered vertices of a five-pointed star by following a specific rule. Each object had to be placed on an unoccupied vertex and slid along a line to an opposite vertex and left there. This process was repeated until all four objects were placed on the star. One solution appears below. To get this solution, the first penny was placed on 1 and slid along the line to 3; the second penny was placed on 4 and slid to 1; the third penny was placed on 2 and slid to 5; and the last penny was placed on 2 and slid to 4.
