Professional Learning the AIMS Way

The AIMS Professional Learning Division is hard at work facilitating workshops at schools, school districts, and consortia across the country.  Why?  Because an educator attending a Professional Learning (PL) opportunity offered by the AIMS Center will be engaged in learning hands-on strategies which will enable students in their classrooms to development robust math and science knowledge.  (AND our workshops are fun!)

Would you or your district like to be a host?

AIMS is currently facilitating one and multi-day math and science workshops throughout the country.  We are prepared to facilitate math or science workshops for three different grade spans: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Hosts may sponsor a workshop for their own teachers or a host can offer the use of your facilities and leave the rest to AIMS for an “Open Enrollment” workshop. TIMG_8293his kind of setup is an opportunity for a site to host a workshop, but to have the AIMS central office run and manage the enrollment. Being an “Open Enrollment” host comes with no financial obligation for the workshop other than spreading the word and letting area teachers know what PL opportunities are being offered. Each participant will be expected to register for the workshop themselves on the AIMS website and will be responsible for their own payment.

Sustained Professional Learning

We are excited to be going into our second year-long sustained math project with teachers in rural areas in the state of Florida. In collaboration with Florida and the Islands Comprehensive Center (https://www.ets.org/flicc/) and working at three rural consortia, AIMS facilitators designed a year-long program for these teachers.  The program consists of four face-to-face learning days spread out during the school year, enhanced through an online Professional Learning Community allowing for DebPfollow-up collaboration and reflection for the participants. Last year we focused on Algebraic Thinking, and this year’s focus is Number Sense. 2015-16 project participants saw the value of a sustained PL project. Their testimonials are exciting to listen to: http://www.aimsedu.org/flicc-conference/ .  This year-long project is ready to be replicated at your site or district!

We at The AIMS Center are prepared and available to facilitate a hosted workshop, open enrollment workshop, or a sustained project for individual schools, school districts, or educational consortia. We strive to accommodate the PL needs and goals of our patrons to ensure a successful partnership.

Have you assessed what your Professional Learning goals are for your teachers/colleagues in math and science?  Drop me a note.  Let’s talk!
