How can we rehumanize math and science learning in our classrooms? How do we weave together math and science learning and cultural understandings in authentic ways that reaffirm our students’ identities? In this session, we will reflect together on our own funds of knowledge, our community cultural wealth, and our connections to making in order to think about what our students have to bring to class each day. We will connect how leveraging maker-centered learning becomes a tool for creating more equitable, just, and liberatory learning experiences for youth.

Learning Events Manager, Maker Ed

Dora is the Learning Events Manager at Maker Ed where she develops and facilitates professional learning experiences that support educators to integrate liberatory, maker-centered learning into their practice. She cares deeply about centering the learning and liberation of youth of color, healing math trauma and making math learning more culturally relevant. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and an emphasis in Quantum Mechanics and a minor in Science and Math Education.
